I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Zoey and I loved spending time outdoors this weekend; the cooler mornings are getting me excited for Fall!
Calendar for this week:
~ Wednesday is an early release day. Please send a message in student agendas or in a separate letter if your student will go home a different way.
~Wednesday is also Fall Picture Day! Students went home with a picture day form last week; however, if you need an additional form, please let me know.
~There is no Teach One to Lead One class this week due to early release/picture day
~The School Store (PTA) is open on Friday mornings!
~Science: This week, students will be learning about stars and constellations. The focus is on how the colors of stars correlate with the temperature of each star.
~Math: Students will be focusing on solving word problems involving addition and subtraction. For homework, students are reviewing and practicing subtraction using the "standard algorithm" (how we grew up learning to subtract). *Please note that in some classes in 3rd grade, students were taught different strategies of subtraction; these strategies are fine to use if it is easier for the student. However, 4th grade students subtract numbers up to the millions, so review of the "old school" method of subtraction will be beneficial at home. A tutorial video has been uploaded to the blog: jcjulian2.weebly.com, under the "homework" tab.
Reading: Students have completed their study of the novel "Love That Dog." This week, students will learn how to use text evidence to support comprehension questions using the novel George Washington's Socks. This is also a preview of the first Social Studies unit - the Revolutionary War.
Writing: Students have been hard at work with their fictional narratives. This week, students will learn how to write surprising "hooks" that will make the reader more interested in what they write.
Please let me know of any questions/concerns,
